2018 Programs

Saturday Feb 24th, United Way Loudermilk Center, near Ga-State Campus, 9am-noon

Volunteer at a workshop at the National Council of Negro Women - STEAM Expo

WCC and the National Council of Negro Women are joining forces to provide a morning workshop. The workshop will provide experience with real-world scientific problem-solving for 20-25 high-school students. The students will be working on problems related to the manufacture of silicone prosthetics, and there will be plenty of interaction with the silicone! The silicone activity will be designed and led by the co-chairs of the WCC Outreach Committee (Laurel Royer and Amanda Wollnick), so please contact Laurel asap

at lroyer@exponent.com if you are able to lend a hand for all or part of the morning. We still need a few more WCC volunteers!

WCC Spring Professional Development Brunch/Lunch

WCC’s main event of the year occurs each spring.

This year the co-chairs of the WCC Professional Development Committee (Jahari Soward and Kristin Dortch) are putting together a working brunch, where women scientists can come together to work on vital career advancement skills. Meet up with other WCC members at the fall A.C.S. national meeting

Meet up with fellow Ga-WCC members, at the Fall 2018 A.C.S National meeting in Boston. Contact Jahari Soward (jsoward1908@yahoo.com) if you will be at the meeting so that she can put WCC-Ga members in touch with each other in order to find a time/place to meet up in Boston.

An evening of celebration of the achievements of our WCC members

Come and celebrate, and be celebrated by, your fellow WCC members. Show off your research, or come and share your interesting career experiences. Everyone who signs up will get 5 mins of talking time! Please look out for the sign up, or please email the WCC chair, Sarah Winget, (swinget@agnesscott.edu) if you have questions.

We will also take some time at the end of the presentations to brainstorm ideas for a table at the spring 2019 Atlanta Science Festival.

WCC Holiday Party and Scholarship Presentations, free-event

Please join us for our popular annual holiday party!

Also, the co-chairs of the WCC Scholarship Committee, Elizabeth Cowan and Kasey Hill, will announce the 2018 winners of the Elise Shover ACS-Ga Women in Chemistry Scholarship. Elise Schover was the first woman chemist to receive the Outstanding Service Award from ACS-Ga in 1975. The WCC will honor her by presenting

two scholarship awards of $500 each to one undergraduate and one graduate

female majoring in the chemical sciences. Please look out for the call for applications in Sep 2018, as the deadline will be Oct 31st 2018.

Women in Chemistry Scholarship

The American Chemical Society Women Chemists Committee (WCC) for the Georgia Section announces the ACS Georgia Section Women in Chemistry Scholarship for 2017. The scholarship award of $500 will be presented to one undergraduate and graduate female majoring in the chemical sciences.
