YCC Update

The Younger Chemist Committee has received a $300 award from YCC national to help fund the upcoming YCC career panel. The panel, made up of local professionals with experience across many different sectors including academia, industry, and scientific writing will be able to answer questions, concerns, and talk about their respective responsibilities and day to day activities. SERMACS 2017 Symposium

Members of our local section are putting together a symposium to be held during SERMACS. The symposium entitled "The Chemical Entrepreneur Symposium – From Concept to Commercialization" will be held on Thursday, November 9th, 2017 at the Sheraton Charlotte Hotel in Charlotte, NC.

Dr. Amanda Stockton’s talk on small sample microfluidics was out of this universe! The talk was truly intriguing with many great takeaways. One of our members commented that they enjoyed fluorescence detection being at the forefront as mass spectrometry is not an ubiquitous system for all species, particularly those that do not ionize. January Dinner Meeting Recap

This past month the Georgia Section of the ACS (GA-ACS) had its first event of the year - “Medical Ethnobotany and the Discovery of New Drugs for Antibiotic Resistant Infections” at Mary Mac’s Tea Room with Dr. Cassandra Quave as our highlight speaker.
